On-call glossary

Swap

Two participants trading shifts through a two-sided Slack approval flow.

A swap is when two participants trade shifts. Unlike an admin override, a swap is peer-to-peer and consensual: one person proposes, the other accepts or declines.

Swaps exist because real schedules don't survive contact with real life. Someone has a conflict on their week; a teammate has a lighter week coming up. A swap lets them sort it out themselves without an admin in the loop.

In Dynaro, a swap runs through a two-sided Slack approval flow. The requester proposes the swap with /oncall-swap, the other participant accepts or declines, and on acceptance Dynaro updates the schedule and the user-group membership immediately. Swaps end automatically at the configured end-time.

In practice

Priya has a wedding during her on-call week. She runs /oncall-swap with Marco, who's free that week. Marco accepts; Dynaro trades their shifts and updates @oncall on the spot.
